Leadership

Effective leadership is the stepping stone to sustainable educational change. When you have leaders around you, motivation to reach new heights is contagious. They create situations where teachers value and trust one another. Education leaders are often thought to be principals, but principals are certainly not the only leaders among schools. Educational leaders are not afraid of failing; they are risk takers who see new ways of achieving success for students.

Leadership needs to be a shared responsibility if sustainable change is occur. Too often we see a top down model where staff is given very little input and simply told what the new initiatives are. The truth is, if people do not understand the purpose of the initiative and see the greater good it can create, sustainable change will not occur because educators will not invest the time and energy needed. Leaders need to show their passion by being able to discuss with others their vision that has a clear purpose.
